Girona Airport

Airplane

Girona airport, also known as both Gerona airport and Barcelona Gerona is the gateway to the Costa Brava and its popular seaside resorts! In fact the airport only has one scheduled airline in the form of Ryanair. Having said that the summer tourist season sees charter services from all over Europe descend on this part of Catalunya.

Transport to and from

As with most airports in Spain Girona has excellent links to the local road system yet no rail links. Suitable as a cheaper alternative than flying to Barcelona a regular bus service connects the Catalan capital with the airport.

  • By road:With its own dedicated access roads from the AP-7 Autovia de mediteraneo, Mediteranean highway, and the A-2 (free motorway) the airport is impossible to miss if driving and even so the exits are clearly signposted.
  • By Taxi: The taxi rank in front of the terminal building will take the vistor to anywhere in Catalunya but at a price! To nearby Girona its a 15km journey and popular resorts such as L'estartit and Lloret del Mar are 55 and 30 kms away respectively. If one is consideringa taxi to Barcelona its just short of a 100km journey. All taxi fares from Girona airport have a 3.10€ surcharge on top of the metered fare. If you need to reserve a taxi in advance the telephone number is: +34 972 203 377 or +34 972 222 323 although there are no guarantees the operator will understand English.
  • By Bus: With no rail links its left to the bus companies to move the half a million passengers that pass through the airport each month. Thankfully there are a wide range of destinations and frequent services to ensure the visitor doesn't have to wait long at the airport itself.

    Domestic destinations:

    1. Barcelona 1 hr 10 minutes - Barcelona bus
    2. Costa Brava - To all points along the coast and the major inland destinations Barcelona bus and SARFA (the official Catalan bus company)
    3. Girona/Gerona 25 minutes - Barcelona bus
    4. Granollers bus station - Barcelona bus
    5. Lleida or Lerida - Teisa (only in Spanish)
    6. Mataró train station - Barcelona bus

    International destinations:

    2. Southern France (incl Perpignan train station) - Frogbus (thats no joke!)
